The owner asked Julia to design his West Virginia mountainside dream home in a way that captured two very different forms and functions: first, it should be inspired by the classic Texaco service stations of the 1930's (for his classic car restoration hobby); and second, it should have soaring space and views of the mountainside, as with Julia's own mountain getaway home. The resulting house fit the bill perfectly: a place to tinker endlessly with the cars, while surrounded by breathtaking views.

The main space opens to the cliff’s edge. The top floor bedrooms open to a large deck overlooking the view. The garage at the left opens in the rear to a work space and pad at the edge.

The owner works on his classic cars and motorcycles in the double garage. The glass-enclosed “manager’s office” is at the front left corner, with the main entrance to its right. A classic Texaco pump and signal hose complete the picture.

The glass-enclosed main space is an atrium great room with expansive views to the west, north and south.
